Cardiff Sixth Form College has been top of the UK league tables for the past eight years and is highly regarded for its academic reputation. In 2017 92% of all students gained A*-A grades, 99% A*-B. The College also has tremendous success in getting students into top universities. With a strong careers department of seven counsellors, this year 37 students went onto study Medicine, 23 Engineering, 20 Economics and 10 Law at Russell Group and Ivy League universities. In 2017, 19 students gained places at Oxbridge, 26 to Imperial, 21 to LSE, 16 to UCL and 7 to Hong Kong University. As well as an A Level programme, Cardiff Sixth Form College also offers a one year GCSE course, one term short course and three summer schools: academic, Oxbridge Preparation and Medical Preparation.
Students should be able to choose from a wide range of A-levels. Too frequently, schools and colleges require students to choose from a limited selection of subjects in order to meet timetabling requirements. We believe this is not in our students’ best interests. Cardiff Sixth Form College aims to give its students the freedom to choose any subject combination they wish and to construct a timetable around their individual needs. If you are uncertain as to which A-Levels would suit you best, Cardiff Sixth Form College offers expert advice from career specialists.
Cardiff Sixth Form College provides each student with as much time with teachers as possible. Students receive between 24 to 30 hours a week of scheduled class time. In addition, we arrange tutorials and study sessions to fit the needs of each individual learner. Our teacher-student ratio reaches 1:7 - far above the national average. Each student benefits from the individual attention and mentorship they receive.
Our A-Level programme is also supplemented by our detailed extra-curricular policy.
Through a one year intensive GCSE course, Cardiff Sixth Form College provides a unique opportunity for younger students, many of whom aspire to progress onto the award winning Sixth Form, to be able to take advantage of the inspirational teaching, excellent career development and modern boarding environment at the top school in the UK.
An excellent platform for moving onto the next level and a solid foundation for continuing their studies, this new course gives students the opportunity to study between six and nine key academic subjects as well as improve their English proficiency in small class sizes with intensive teaching.
Taught by the existing Cardiff Sixth Form staff, all students will also participate fully in sport, cultural activities, a super-curricular programme, academic enrichment opportunities and everyday College life, alongside their A Level counterparts.
The one year GCSE course will be particularly useful for international students, many of whom do not take a formal examination at this stage, who wish to follow an A Level programme and subsequently hope to study at a top UK or US university. It is a stand-alone qualification, the results of which are also taken into account in the entry process for top university courses.
Are you thinking of studying in the UK? Why not come along to our Summer School and get a head start on your peers?
Cardiff Sixth Form College will be offering three programmes:
The programme has been developed mainly for students aged 14+ who will be progressing into full-time education in UK institutions, either immediately upon completion or in the following year. It is equally suitable as a pre-GCSE or pre-A-Level course and will serve either as a head-start or as a comprehensive revision programme. Apart from intensive English language preparation, students will also be taught core academic subjects (Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Economics), to help them to adjust to specific demands of British education.
If you excel academically and have the drive to succeed, you may be considering an application to Oxford or Cambridge. These institutions are among the most selective universities in the world so it’s all about academic ability, potential, and commitment. This course will help students to understand what sets Oxbridge apart from other universities and what the application process entails. The programme will also be useful for students considering other top universities such as London School of Economics, Imperial College London, University College London, Durham University and others.
Applying to a medical school is a big decision to make and requires a great amount of planning and preparation. Our Medical Programme has been designed to help students interested in a variety of healthcare careers, including dentistry and veterinary medicine, make an informed decision about which course and which university would suit them best and develop their own preparation strategy to ensure the best chance of success. Due to the competitiveness of medical school admissions, applicants will require specialist support and guidance, including personalized career advice and personal statement sessions. The course provides a deeper insight into what studying medicine involves, what requirements students need to meet and what deadlines they need to be aware of.
